WOW! SXSW is nearly upon us! And gosh dang do we have some exciting news. While i'm not entirely thrilled with our official SXSW nightly shows (nothing will quite compare to hosting BEST COAST last year), I AM SUPREMELY EXCITED by our day parties!

This year we will pretty much be official BROOKLY VEGAN headquarters! That's right that mightily awesome Blog is hosting three of our day parties and occupying the indoor and outdoor barbarella stages as well as Swan Dive stages. I know who's booked to play and TRUST ME you will be excited (or should be) but I can't tell you just yet. Announcement coming soon. And wednesday we are proud to once again host THE GLITORIS day party. Last year they surprised us with their ahead of the curve artist line up. CRYSTAL FIGHTERS before you knew you loved CRYSTAL FIGHTERS!

And just in time for all this, Barbarella is excited to announce the imminent arrival of EL DIABLO taco stand. That's right, straight out of Brooklyn's famous Union Pool Bar comes EL DIABLO tacos! Let the Barbarella Backlash Begin!

So we realize some of you have grown irritated with your favorite Sci Fi Vixen. It's easy to look back on the good ol' days but remember Barbarella was just as packed back then and it was just as frustrating to get a drink which is why we moved next door. Well, we didn't quite anticipate it getting this much more packed and no matter how many bartenders we add we just couldn't keep up. So we are opening the upstairs bar on busy nights which should help out. And if you feel to cramped on the downstairs dance floor feel free to take that ass upstair and shake it real good. Remodeling is coming soon which will provide easier access to upstairs. Until then here are some much overdue play lists to keep you satiated.

and let me clarify, by music we mean MUSIC.

some people say they love music and what they mean is: "I love indie rock." or "I love hip hop" or, even worse still, "I love the B sides to the band you have yet to hear of..." Vomit.

that's like saying you love people but hate black people or white people or Asians.

for those of us who truly love music, our love knows no boundaries or genres, and we seek out the new AND cherish the old, embrace the obscure and relish the standards.

This video is a perfect match for the chaos that is the song and that is well, uh, drunk girls. The degree to which the shenanigans escalate and the sheer joy with which they are distributed actually forced me to reconsider my feelings for the song. Initially a hater, you can now consider Barbarella a fan.

ATTENTION!!! BREAKING NEWS! so we have a situation. things are going good and it seems you like us, you really like us... but you seem to only like us after 1am. An hour of good business 3 times a week makes not a successful bar. We want to stay around for a while. We've tried to lure you in with an insane happy hour that lasts til 11. that didn't work.

So now we are trying something else. STARTING NEXT WEEKEND there will be a 3$ cover after 12:30. Tonight and tomorrow night there will be a contest with 20 winners that will receive V.I.P. status, meaning those 20 individuals will never have to pay a cover (unless it's a very special event). The first ten people to post on our facebook page the last song of the night on friday and saturday will win lifetime V.I.P. status! Got it.

Howdy and welcome to our new website.
This has been a big week for Barbarella. We built a new bar, a new lounge area and a new website!

This website will serve to keep you up to date on all the latest happenings at Barbarella. It will also feature music videos we play and the occasional playlist from our various themed nights. We will also regularly upload photos of all the fun that goes on inside Barbarella! I look forward to expanding Barbarella's presence on the web!

Unfortunately, all this costs money, lots of it, not to mention the cost just to keep the ol' place up and running and fully staffed. Due to pure economics we unfortunately find ourselves having to raise prices just a tad. Wells, Calls and Premiums will all get a 50 cent bump. Our beer prices will not change which means we still have 2$ PBR and 3$ Lonestar Tall Boys. We feel our prices are still on the cheap side and that when considering the entertainment that we provide w/0 a cover charge (in most cases) we hope that you will agree.

This is a concert film that features the ALL STAR concert that preceded the famous 'Rumble in the Jungle' rematch between Ali and George Foreman that took place in Africa.

After the movie bring your boogie shoes to barbarella where the soul jams will continue and you can really shake your ass.

Free with ticket stub, and honestly, probably free if we like you... and we do.

Oh and if you really want to make a night of it rent and watch 'When We Were Kings' beforehand. It's an amazing documentary about the fight. I mean REALLY AMAZING.
